My Intern's Lovely Spring Time Mantle

I am loving the Spring mantle my friend put together recently!
What a great mix of texture, shape and color.  By contrasting the elegant oil paintings with the more organic texture of the nest and branches, she has added interest to her display. We joke about her being my intern, but you can see she has a great eye.

Here is the first picture she texted me as she started composing this vignette.  When hanging a mirror, always take into consideration what it will reflect.  Not loving the reflection of the fan.
Layering the oil painting in front of the mirror helped.  The branches, with buds about to burst open, scream "Spring is Coming!"  Something it has been hard to believe around Atlanta recently.
Switching the mirror out for another oil painting really softened the display.  Susan has been collecting these vintage floral paintings for a gallery wall in her loft, but they are perfect here in the mean time.

Think I can convince her to come decorate my mantle?  What are you using to decorate this spring?

Isn't She Lovely

My daughter, Ashley Edmonds, is featured on Isn't She Lovely today.  This is the first in a series of blog posts where the author interviews women she feels embody the title of her blog, Isn't She Lovely - love this concept.  I was excited to read about Ashley's Mompreneur experience.  Although she and I had discussed the interview, she failed to mention how she talked about me as an inspiration.  Suffering from yet another bout of insomnia, I had tears running down my cheeks as I read the post at 3:30 a.m.

Jana's blog also chronicles her daily joys and challanges as a stay at home mom.  Even though it has been many years since my days as a stay at home mom, her insightful blog brings back many  happy memories.

Treasures from Renninger's

Our recent trip to Renninger's Antique and Farmer's Market was way too short to explore everything located on the 117 acre grounds!

Renninger's includes a flea market, farmer's market, a street of charming antique stores, a large antique consignment building along with many semi-permanent flea market booths, pavilion areas and wide open fields for vendors to set up their wares.

At the farmer's market, I purchased this beautiful bouquet of orchids for a mere $6!  There were probably 30 stems in the bunch.  Supposedly they will last for a month with regular water changing.

Beyond the farmer's market were the semi-permanent Flea Market Booths.  We only made it through about three of these.  Here I am browsing the offerings of one vendor who uses a semi-trailer as his booth.  The ox did not make the trip home with us.

After scoping out the grounds, we headed down to the antique market as we had limited time.  At the first booth we stopped at, I bought these vintage crocheted carnations.

For some reason, these just made me smile so I had to buy them.  Wouldn't they look great in a McCoy vase?   Boutonnieres at a vintage styled wedding?  The needlepoint violets will be used to embellish a pillow.

Hunky Handyman found these great vintage fishing flies with original boxes (tops only).   Great pieces of folk art for a man cave.

Aren't the graphics on this 1950(ish) skill ball game great?  This may make an appearance in one of Neena's nurseries.  (With four grandchildren under 3, we converted another bedroom into sleeping quarters for toddlers).

When I saw this beauty, it was love at first sight!  Still researching, but I think this Jeweler's workbench is from the 1930's or 1940's.  The original work light is still attached and in working order. The drawer that is pulled out is fabric lined to catch any falling parts.  Pottery Barn has a reproduction that is almost identical to this piece, but more expensive.  So many uses for this great desk:  bar, computer desk, jewelry/make up table.  Watch for more pictures on next week's virtual yard sale.

We will definitely be making more trips to the charming town of Mount Dora and Renninger's Flea and Antique Market.  We met many great vendors with a wide variety of antique and vintage items.  They have expanded the hours and are now open on Fridays.  Three times a year they host an Antique and Collector's Extravaganza with 1400 dealers!

Some of these items will be making an appearance on Chapin Group's Etsy Shop opening in April.

Renninger's

Hunky Handy Man (HHM) and I are headed to Renninger's Antique Market in Mount Dora, Florida this weekend.

Looking forward to shopping both the street of shops and the flea market.

We are spending the night in the charming town of Mount Dora.  This is our third trip to this lovely town.

If you haven't had a chance to visit this jewel, I highly recommend it.  Next weekend is Mount Dora's Spring Fling with over 200 artists, antique dealers and crafters.

Hopefully, we will find lots of great treasures for our Etsy shop opening in April, 2013.

Virtual Yard Sale

Space is becoming a premium commodity at our house these days so it is time to let go of some of my treasures.  I purchased these Chippendale rattan side tables in Alabama when I had my antique booth at Scotland Yard Antiques.  They were an ugly dark brown so I updated them with a custom red paint finish.

When I closed the booth, I kept these because I hoped to use them myself one day.  Don't they look great with my sofa? Anyway, there is not room in my den so they have been residing in my garage.  Time to let them go so my car can once again enjoy it's home!
I have listed them on craigs list at $160 for the pair but wanted to give my readers first chance at them (So maybe I can come visit them from time to time).   As you can see, they are also great paired together as a coffee table! Hmmm, where could I store my large round sea grass coffee table?  No, time to let go.
Wrapped detailing on fretwork

Give me a shout if you are interested - local pick up only.  HHM and I are exploring the possibility of opening an Etsy Shop this spring, but in the mean time, watch for more Virtual Yardsales.
